2.02 Update Now Available (Bug Fixes)

Just a small patch this time around. If you already completed 2.0 or 2.01 without problems there is little reason to upgrade. That being said, I'll go over the small bug fixes with this latest update.

  • Edited the location of saved files. This is a specific directory depending on the operating system.
  • Fixed an error with hotspots during the in-game menu that sometimes hindered progress.

First off, I made a small change to where saved files are stored. This changed from the working data directory (where you unpacked the game) to the app data directory. Usually, app data is a folder deep within system files that you cannot find without a specific query. In any event, this should produce fewer conflicts, since I had a user report corrupted saves. This should fix the issue, and I asked around and was told that app data is the preferred directory for my engine. However, please contact me if you run into any issues still.

Secondly, I made an adjustment to hotspots located in the in-game menu. Quality of life fix, as we don't want the game to suddenly stop working, right? Alas, all the testing in the world is sure to leave something that didn't get squashed the first time around.

That's all the update notes for this version. As far as development goes, things are still churning along. I will say that the sprite for our newest character, Alphi, is complete. She's not quite ready to be shown off yet, but you can get a tease of her appearance by checking out the silhouette below.

Outside of that, I am trying to commit to a more regular development schedule. Harder than it sounds since procrastination is a thing. I truly went overboard on the scope of my first game, but alas, I am trying to make the most of it. Ideally, I would have the majority of the game fully written by the Kickstarter launch (early 2023 I am now projecting). That's quite a lot of writing. That being said, If I focus on writing solely and stick to my development schedule, I know it can get done.

More delays, huh? Well, I will explain a common rut of game development. Lack of money for assets usually leads to a lack of motivation. The asset delivery period also doesn't make things easy either. I always stress quality over speed with my team members and let's face it, I am fortunate to have one main artist who has stuck with me since this project's inception. Ideally, I would have a large majority of the game constructed with placeholders, but things don't always work that smoothly (with me at least).

Sometimes, this project just has to be placed on the backburner. Life expenses, family, house renovations (now that I'm a homeowner) have to come first, no matter how much it pains me inside. All I can do is stay committed, and slowly chip away at things.

On the UI (user interface) front, I will say that I am testing glossary pages with unlockables and such. This would also include character info, diary entries, quotes, and likely some form of affection or meter tracking. Just tinkering with things until I get it where I want it since outsourcing to a programmer didn't work so hot last time.

Stay tuned to future developments, everyone. Thanks again for following our project.
