2.01 Update Now Available (Free Download)!

Greetings again, everyone. I'm pleased to announce that Zeta Wolf Chronicles Version 2.01 is now publicly available (free release). If you tried our game during its 1.0 development phase (or are a new player altogether), I encourage you to dip your toes into the game once more. There's been a number of subtle but noticeable quality of life updates that place a little more polish on things. While the game is a far cry from being complete, we are slowly getting there.

For starters, please reference our previous post detailing all the in's and out's of version 2.0 and its updates. Since this is our free release, everyone is invited to try out the new version! Please remember that we intend to follow an update schedule that gives contributors early access to recent builds for a minimum of 2 weeks.  If you'd like to show your appreciation or assist us through the throes of development, you can donate $5 when downloading the game (though any amount is appreciated). One-time donation of $5 minimum will get you early access to future builds. What will future updates look like? Version 2.1 for instance will include the opening sequences of Ravia's arc (sneak preview of her in this version) which will include new CG art, background assets, and additional costumes. Each version update from here on out is expected to add anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of playtime.

Future Update Schedule

  • Fall 2021: Version 2.1 - Ravia Introduction
  • Winter 2022: Version 2.2 - Maikah Introduction
  • TBA 2022: Version 2.3 - Crescia Introduction
  • TBA 2022: Version 2.4 - ???(4th Route Girl) Introduction

The above schedule is tentative and subject to change, but these are rough delivery times. I want to stress a small pointer on development times. Most of the reason behind Zeta Wolf's slow development is due to a lack of funding. Since everything is self-funded up to this point, these preliminary versions are being released to gauge interest/following prior to crowdfunding. Crowdfunding initiatives will start sometime after the conclusion of version 2.4. Assets are quite expensive, and sadly, my limited income can only fuel development (and it's speed) so far.

Next, I'll list a set of changes that discuss the changes that apply from update version 2.0 to 2.01. There are only a small handful of updates here, and they are mostly quality-of-life fixes.

Version 2.01 Updates and Bug Fixes

  • Included an additional prompt and confirmation screen when quitting the game.
  • Fixed a bug with one of Lyca's sprites (She was missing a nose).
  • Updated credits listing with additional contributors (thank you for supporting the game).

Clarification on an Omitted Plot Point

Since version 1.0, there have been some minute alterations in the plot and future direction of Zeta Wolf Chronicles. Along the way, I did much experimentation with new systems, such as converse time, reflection points, and so on. Originally, there was supposed to be a plotline that involved Lyca (and her alternate form) through multiple dimensions. You might remember the form of Lyca with a scratched eye. Suffice to say, between versions, I came to the conclusion that I was not satisfied with Lyca and her split personas and forms, and decided to expand the plot in another direction. Those of you who played 1.0 (and unlocked bonus content especially) may notice the omitted content on a full playthrough again. Sadly, this content has been scrapped, including an Arctia outfit that I never was too fond of.

Given this, it is only natural for first-time developers to make mistakes (that which I am). As we stand currently, I am much more confident in the current direction I am taking the game, and I believe that the final, post Kickstarter (retail version) will be nearly everything I initially envisioned it to be in 2018.

Your Feedback is Appreciated!

Any feedback that is left, be it positive or negative, is appreciated! This can be a comment on the itch.io main page or on our feedback form for version 2.01. I'm somewhat discouraged that visibility will almost assuredly be lower since this is an update rather than a new project posting. Nonetheless, those players that take time out of their day to leave their opinion helps immensely and keeps me pushing forward. After all, the duration of this project could easily eclipse the 5-year mark, after starting development in 2018.

Thank you again to everyone who downloaded our game, those who supported us with their donation or comments, or for following our twitter account. Please enjoy this release. Until the next update....

(This will likely involve a full Ravia reveal on our Twitter with a new alternate, as well as a Crescia reveal, so look forward to it! Asset funding is slow and grueling sometimes, but plans are in motion.)
